Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens from Canon is another one in their fine collection of standard telephoto lenses for their digital EOS camera bodies. This particular telephoto zoom lens from Canon has their famous image stabilization technology built into the lens. Surprisingly, the lens is relatively light weight considering the internal stabilization system and wide range of focal points.

When this lens is used in one of Canon’s EOS camera bodies, it compares to the 88-400mm 35mm format cameras. That should give those of you who are converting from the old 35mm cameras to the EOS systems a better idea of its actual capabilities and performance. The lens is compatible with any of Cannon’s EOS camera bodies whether they are digital or film cameras.

Canon made this lens in part because of numerous requests from photographers to supply them with a lightweight, compact and affordable telephoto lens for their EOS cameras. Canon answered the photographers requests perfectly with this lens. It is most likely the least expensive telephoto lens of this quality and specifications on the market today.

The infamous Canon image stabilization system is impressive even in this less expensive telephoto lens. The stabilization allows you to take hand held shots at slower shutter speeds than ever before. With image stabilization of up to four stops, the shutter speed can be as slow as 1/15 of a second while holding the camera by hand! That is one of the lenses terrific advantages. Some of the other advantages include its lower price, wide zoom range(15mm to 250mm) and it also features a UD glass lens element that corrects chromatic aberration to improve the image quality.
